Carpets need to be regularly cleaned for a couple of reasons, first is your sanity. How often do you walk through your home only to cringe at the history book of spills accidents and pacing that is your carpet. Remember when Grandma spilled her mimosa whenthe dog bumped her last Christmas? You blotted, rinsed, and cleaned the area with your carpet cleaning machine but the stain is still there two years later! It might be time to hire a carpet steam cleaning company to bring some new life back to your homescarpeting!
There are several other reasons to have your carpeting cleaned besides to keep your sanity, one and possibly the most important, is your health. While you can’t really say your carpets are sanitized, carpet steam cleaning goes a long way in killing bugs and germs utilizing heat. Did you know your carpets act as a giant air filter? You might think this would be good, unfortunately every time you walk on your carpet pollens and dust are puffed back into the are which can affect those with respiratory or allergy problems. A good, deep, carpet steam cleaning will remove most of these foreign bodies unlike other cleaning systems. Following your health the next reason you might want to consider having your carpets cleaned is to protect your investment. Carpeting can be expensive but that investment can be insured to last you a long time by having regular carpet cleaning appointments. The very dirt and grime that drives you crazy when you see it is also hurting your carpet when you walk on it. When you walk your foot pressure compresses, rubs, and twists the carpet fibers. When this happens the carpet fibers are pressed against each other with the dirt and grime in between causing the fibers to be slightly damaged. Think of it like sanding wood by moving the wood against the sandpaper instead of moving the sandpaper against the wood. This action will cause premature aging of the carpet leaving ground in stains and unsightly wear areas. Steam cleaning can prevent this due to the deep cleaning action of the process.
There are five main types of carpet cleaning: Shampooing, Dry Cleaning, Foam Cleaning, Bonnet Cleaning, and Steam Cleaning. The worst method is shampooing. Detergents are applied to the carpet and agitated with a machine. The shampoo is then extracted from the carpet by vacuuming. The detergents used contain brighteners and deodorizers that leave your carpet looking nice and smelling good. However, most of the dirt stays in the carpet and reappear after the shampoo’s effect has worn off. Dry cleaning is performed by applying a special dirt attracting powder to the carpet and worked in. Then using a vacuum it is sucked up leaving the carpets looking clean, however much of the dirty powder is not vacuumed up and is left deep down in the carpet. Foam carpet cleaning method is a cross between shampooing and dry cleaning. It uses a minimal amount of water and foam detergent that attracts and adheres to the soil. After the foam is worked into the carpet, it is then vacuumed, extracting most of the water, detergent, and dirt. However again a residue is left behind. Bonnet cleaning is usually reserved for commercial applications because the aggressive nature of the rotary machine can damage residential carpets. Bonnet carpet cleaning is performed by applying a detergent to the carpet and using an absorbent pad on a rotary shampoo machine to extract soil. Heavy duty truck mounted steam cleaning is the best method for cleaning carpets. A powerful machine mounted inside a van or trailer generates high pressure steam water and incredibly strong suction both of which are piped into your home using flexible lines. The benefit of the truck mounted system is constant flow of hot water, this can not be achieved with a portable type system. Typically a prespray is applied to the carpet and allowed to dwell, loosening the soil. Then using a wand a hot high pressure solution is shot into the carpet while simultaneously being sucked out of the home and into storage tanks outside leaving your carpeting clean and residue free. It can take 3-6 hours for the carpet to dry but this wont harm it or you.
Carpet cleaning companies will always tell you there system is the best but when it comes to deciding what system is best for you all you have to do is ask yourself How do I clean everything else. When you wash your clothes you use water and soap, when you wash your dishes you uses water and soap, when you wash yourself you use water and soap(at least I hope you do). So you guest it the best way to wash your carpet is with hot water and a detergent( Steam Cleaning). In the past there was some concern thata sticky residue would be left behind causing your carpet to get dirty faster, this is no longer the case by applying the prespray first and then rinsing with a rinse additive leaving your carpet beautiful and your sanity intact!
