Tanita scales as a group are much more accurate and reliable than the competitors brands, however they make few basic digitals scales. I chose this one because I wanted a no frills scale made by Tanita, not because it is solar. However the solar power source works fine, taking maybe 15 seconds after the light is turned on in the room to power up. The scale is sturdy, not flimsy plastic. The weight reading on this scale matches the one at the doctor’s office and at the gym. If I step on and off repeatedly, I never get a variation of more than 0.5 lb. I specifically chose this scale because it does not have a memory of your weight (I prefer to keep that info to myself). Of course, if you want the memory feature you should choose a different model.

Great scale! I keep it in the bathroom cabinet when not in use, and it works within a minute of exposure to light. It seems to be very accurate, and it is one of the few digital scales I saw that doesn’t record your weight for the entire household to see, a definite plus in my opinion!

Very accurate and easy to use. Because my bathroom has no windows, I thought that I’d have to use this scale in one of my other rooms, but just the light over my sink powers it up in about 10 seconds. I’ve weighed myself right before going to the doctor and being weighed on his balance scale, and the two readings were exactly the same. As a test, I’ve tried weighing myself several times repeatedly, and the reading was the same every time, which has never been the case with other scales I’ve owned. This scale is heavy and solidly made, and I expect it to last a long time. Also, it’s nice to know that I’ll never have to buy a battery for it.

Unlike the (many) scales I have purchased from Target and bad & bath stores over the years, this Tanita scale is extremely accurate and consistent. If I weigh myself, then step on again holding 16 ounces of water, it registers the extra pound. The solar register works fine in our bathroom without direct light. A simple, high-quality scale.

I’ve only had the scale for about one month, but so far it has worked great. I like the solar powered feature. It is placed in a dark bathroom but only takes a few seconds to powerup when the lights are turned on.
