Eventually, every house is going to need to be renovated and updated. Adhering to the Second Law of Thermodynamics, all things – including your home – deteriorate over time. What you need to know is when, the work that needs to be done, and how much will it cost. The problem is we don’t always have the answer to those questions, and home improvements can be both unexpected and costly.
If you don’t have the savings to tackle a major home improvement project but need to get it done, then it’s time to look into a home improvement loan. There are two major types of loans – mortgages and credit lines, and both have their benefits and drawbacks. Keep reading for information on these two types of loans as well as tips on when to apply for approval.
First, there’s the mortgage. Depending on the loan provider, mortgages will vary in terms or interest rates and repayment schedules. Ideally, if your credit is good and your first mortgage is paid off, you should be in a healthy position to secure a quality mortgage or home equity loan with a low interest rate.
There are two types of mortgages. The first is a fixed mortgage. This means that the interest rate doesn’t change and you can expect your monthly payment to remain the same month-after-month, year-after-year until the loan has been paid off. The second type of mortgage is an adjustable rate mortgage (ARM); this means that the interest rate will vary and your payments will start small, but most likely grow over time. So, if you’re planning to stay in the home for more than a few years, you’ll most likely want a fixed rate mortgage.
If your first mortgage isn’t paid off, you can apply for a home equity loan. A home equity loan is based on the estimated value of your house after the renovations and after you subtract what you currently owe on your first mortgage. For example, if the value of your home is $125,000 and you have $75,000 left to pay on your mortgage, you could theoretically borrow up to $50,000 on a home equity loan.
Next, there is the line of credit. A line of credit is great for smaller projects and typically offers fantastic interest rates. The other benefit of a line of credit is that you only owe interest on what you’ve borrowed or taken out from the line of credit.
When you set out to apply for a line of credit, home equity loan or second mortgage, try your own bank first. That said, you should always shop around for the best rate and terms and not be afraid to let your bank know that a competitor has offered a better rate – they’ll often meet it.
Remember, home improvement is an investment, so calculate the cost of the project plus the cost of borrowing versus the increased value the project will add to your home. With a good interest rate and an easy loan to pay back, you should see a profit.

The bed bugs are miniscule creatures that carry the scientific name Cimex Lectularius. The chances of seeing them straight are something that not everyone can witness. This is because they are very shy, and they do not come out during the day time.
Most of the pictures that you will see online are enlarged images of the bed bug, as they are very small, and you will not be able to see their physique properly even when you hold them on to your palm. You might have to use a magnifying glass or something that can possibly give you a clearer picture of them that is also only a comparatively clear picture.
1. Description from pictures
The chances of getting what you are looking for are really tiny. A recent study has shown that that the bed bugs have scared many people there in US. So, in order to not feel embarrassed in case you see one, look for sites online and get a picture of the bug that scared you.
The bed bugs are really thin, which is a physical boon that enables them to penetrate into any crevice possible.
There are many pictures that show the bed bugs in different colors, but always remember, the most common bed bugs are reddish brown in color, and there are some that might even be creamy white.
Make note of a bed bug before it consumes blood, and make note of it after it has attacked its prey, it will look a lot different, as it is more nourished now. The bed bugs, after consuming blood, might look black or, might be deep red in color. It is completely filled with blood, hence crushing it to death will be a little too gross, because it will be like you are squashing blood from some balloon.
2. Scientific View
The pictures that are published online will give you a basic idea of their anatomy. The bed bugs have a different kind of skin, and it is covered up with some wax like substance, which provides protection to the bug.
This kind of a structure will protect the bed bugs from becoming wet. They are very tiny, so their internal system is pretty weak, so, in case they get exposed to light, they might completely dehydrate. Looking at these pictures will also let you know how the insecticides work.
The insecticides and the pesticides are usually in the form of sprays. These sprays have glass and silica contents, which will cut through the surface of the bed bugs. After the bed bugs are exposed to the spray, their layers get damaged, and thus, the body structure will be completely ruined. This will lead to the death of the bed bugs. When the protective layer is damaged, it gives way for the physical structure to be attacked by the chemicals that are mixed to it. The chemicals usually dehydrate the insect completely.
3. Large bed bugs
The bed bugs in the rooms are pretty small, and the textbook and forums contain pictures that might seem very unrealistic. So, it is always better to get pictures of an old bed bug that is mature
Such a bed bug is generally more than a year. This type of bed bug is generally in the dying stage.
The completely grown bed bugs might be one fourth an inch, which cannot qualify as a tiny bed bug.
It is always better to see the bed bugs in pictures than having a face to face encounter with them, because it will not be too good to throw up every time you see one.

As I say so frequently that I’m beginning to bore myself, “most remodeling contractors are honest and reliable individuals who want to do quality work at a reasonable price.” Unfortunately, there are just enough contractors out there (or people who claim to be contractors) who take advantage of their customers that some reminders and tips are helpful if you want to do everything possible to protect yourself and your property during home improvement. 1. Don’t make assumptions about referrals. Exercise the same due diligence in evaluating and checking out all contractors. You might have friends or relatives, co-workers or neighbors referring you to contractors they have used with good results. Many people are also simply trusting recommendations from home improvement stores. Even when you are referred to a contractor, check him or her out before you sign a contract. Consumer Reports recently released findings from a study of people who hired contractors to whom they were referred by the two leading home improvement stores. Their survey indicated that people who used these referrals had more problems and were less satisfied with the work than people who used other contractors. 2. Build your remodeling budget in a way that creates a 20% cushion for unexpected surprises. Although the National Association of the Remodeling Industry suggests an allowance of 10% to 20%, I think you are safer to budget for a 20% cost overrun due to surprises. There are literally hundreds of things that can happen or that can be discovered once remodeling begins that will result in a cost overrun. It is not uncommon, for example to discover termite damage, dry rot, damage from leaking pipes, outdated wiring, etc. My point is that you should not use your entire budget on the basics. You will be much more comfortable with your budget if you leave room for surprises. 3. Get a contract — don’t deal with a contractor on the basis of a proposal. If at all possible, get a contract that states a final price for the work, not an estimated cost that can go up or down. Your contract should be as specific as possible and as detailed as possible. It should also contain some kind of warranty for both the installation and the products or materials. You can also specify in the contract that all materials used will be new materials and meet the standards outlined in the contract. It should also state that any changes made during the construction period will be authorized only by written change orders that explain the difference in cost up front. If a contractor is unwilling to sign a contract stating the final price of the remodel, find another contractor. 4. Know what your insurance covers and take out a liability policy if necessary. It is usually easy to call your insurance agent and ask what is covered in terms of damage to your property, loss of property or possessions, and injury or death of a worker on your property during the construction period. You should also be certain that the contractor carries workman’s compensation insurance and liability insurance against injury or death of a worker and against damage or loss to your property or possessions. If you have any concerns about adequate coverage, discuss it with your insurance agent and consider taking out an additional policy during the construction period. 5. Monitor all liens placed against your property during construction (construction liens) by any contractor or subcontractor and ensure that they are removed when the project is finished and the contractor is paid in full. There are unscrupulous contractors who accept payment for a job and then do not remove the liens. In most of these cases, the homeowner is not aware of the lien until some time later when trying to sell the home or take out a loan for further improvements. When homeowners try to resolve the issue, the contractor claims that the bill or part of the bill was never paid and demands payment before removing the lien. 6. Never do business with someone who comes to your door offering their services. 7. Never pay a contractor the entire bill up front. Work out a payment schedule that reflects work completed, and put the payment schedule in the contract. 8. Specify the quality of workmanship and the quality of materials to be used in the remodel or addition in the contract. Not only should you specify materials quality, you should check materials to ensure compliance with the terms of the contract as they are delivered to the construction site. Insist that the costs of all building materials be specified. 9. Include all job specifications in the contract. The more specific the description of the work to be done, the more protection you have. Job specifications state exactly what work is to be done, how it is to be done, the quality of materials to be used, when it is to be complete, and that it must pass inspection. 10. Check all licenses, permits, proof of insurance, and state or local certification before you hire a contractor or subcontractor. Check to be certain the contractor has or obtains all necessary permits, licenses and certificates. Check with issuing agencies or insurance companies to confirm that insurance and licenses are current. 11. Insist that the contractor show you proof of bond coverage for the total replacement cost of the project. 12. Be sure the contract includes the appropriate information about how conflicts will be resolved, when and how the contract will be or can be terminated, and that lien releases will be provided upon payment. 13. If you give the contractor a key to your home for use during the construction period, change the locks as soon as construction is completed. 14. Take the necessary steps to protect your property and your possessions. Put away all valuables in a safe place. Define the construction area for everyone — tell your family not to enter the area during working hours; define limits of access to the rest of your home for the work crew. Protect your landscaping by covering shrubs if necessary and taking other steps to reduce accidental damage. Seal off the construction area from the rest of the house to confine dust, etc. 15. If you are remodeling an old home, make sure any work with potentially hazardous materials is done under the safest conditions and that hazardous materials are completely removed from the work site immediately and disposed of as instructed by your local government. Be sure any lead paint is properly removed; be sure any asbestos is removed and disposed of correctly; be sure old horse hair plaster (that could contain arsenic) is disposed of properly. These tips will help you protect your family, your property and the people working on your remodeling project. Residential home improvement contractors should be very willing to cooperate on all of these points.Copyright 2008 by ABCD Publishing

A garden adds beauty to the surroundings with its colorful treasure of trees, plants, flowers, butterflies, fruits and more. Gardening is an infinitely pleasurable exercise and a hobby for some. If you have enough space to plant herbs or small plants, it becomes your garden. So, it is not a tough task, even if you do not have the experience. Here is a gardening tip for amateurs – start small instead of overdoing things at your first shot.
Gardens tend to have a soothing effect on our minds. You can just sit or lie on your back on the lawn you mowed or in your garden to relax and unwind. The garden should not only look good, but should also be in a place easily visible to everyone. Here is a gardening tip – Build your garden in front of the house. It not only adds to the beauty of the place but also creates a delightful impression on people entering your house.
Basics Of Gardening
The first important gardening tip is to learn the basics of gardening. Most people are very taken in with the idea of creating a garden but you need to know the basics before taking the plunge. One would start dreaming about flowers, fruits and vegetables all over the place even before beginning to build the garden. Which plants to grow, where to plant it, how to do it, and when to do it are common confusion areas for novices.
Selecting The Right Place
Another important gardening tip is to choose the right location for your garden. You should get a great view of the chosen place from inside your house. Now that the problem of where to garden has been dealt with, you have to think of what to plant. If you want to grow any particular plant, you should first check out whether the climatic and other conditions are conducive to its growth. If you live in a place that is hot, then make sure you do no plant in areas exposed to afternoon sun, which is hotter and drier than the morning sun. Also, ensure that the chosen place is not directly exposed to heavy, dry winds.
Selecting The Plants
After the location is finalized, the next gardening tip for you is – choose the right plants. Select appropriate plants in accordance with the environmental conditions in your area. You can grow roses or vegetables – it is up to you. Herbs are ideal for any place as their growth can be controlled, if there is not enough space.
Common Problems
Lastly, here is an important gardening tip for you on tackling the common problems. If your garden is attractive, you can expect unwanted visitors like pests, insects, animals, children to cause damage to your plants. You should be careful and safeguard your garden. You cannot keep watch 24 x 7. However, while you water your plants, make sure that you check for changes in the color, or if insects have damaged the stems, leaves, or the plant itself.
You should also prune the extra growth of the plants so that they are not only healthy but also serve their purpose.
With a helpful gardening tip or two, your green thumb, care and attention, you too can create a beautiful garden at home.

Here are some tips on vegetable gardening that should help make your gardening experience easier and a very gratifying experience. Preparing the soil for your garden is the most important step. The basis of any successful garden is proper soil that creates good seed germination. Vegetables enjoy garden soil that is well drained, deep, contains high organic matter and retains moisture. Make sure the soil is dry before you try plowing or working the dirt. Check the soil acidity or PH for the different vegetables you are going to plant as some may require varying degrees of PH levels. Another tip on vegetable gardening is that you need easy access to water to keep your garden moist during the growing season. Regularly watering is necessary to keep your garden healthy. In most gardening areas, a vegetable garden requires approximately one inch of rainwater or tap water weekly during the growing season. So, if you experience a dry spell, make sure you water your vegetable garden sufficiently to keep the plants healthy and growing.

Another couple of helpful tips on vegetable gardening are making yourself knowledgeable about the requirements of the vegetable seeds and vegetables you want to plant in your garden. Find out information, such as tendency toward insects, germination qualities, light required, vigor of the plants and the planting zones. This will help you determine the best varieties and types of seeds and plants for your area and garden. A great tip on vegetable gardening is, when you sow your seeds, always plant a few extra to replace ones that fail to germinate. Keep the garden moist until the seedlings have emerged and never thin them until their second set of leaves appears. Thinning out the row when the seedlings are small keeps you from disturbing the other vegetables roots. Test your soil periodically to determine if you need fertilizer and the amount you need. Having your own compost is a great and natural way to fertilize your vegetable garden and cuts down on garbage.

The best way to keep pests away or under control is to start by having healthy soil and plants, using compost, regular watering and adequate drainage. When considering tips on vegetable gardening, do not forget weed control. Weeds rob plants of water, light and nutrients. Hoe or cultivate the soil between your plants after it rains, as this kills any newly sprouted weeds. Use a mixture of pine needles and grass if available, to keep the weeds down or a layer of wet newspaper between the rows of vegetables. Try planting marigolds around the vegetable garden border in order to discourage aphids.

A very good homemade deterrent for pests is:

In a jar, combine 1 teaspoon dishwashing liquid and 1 cup vegetable oil. Shake vigorously. In an empty spray bottle, combine 2 teaspoons of this mixture and 1 cup water. Use at ten-day intervals (or more often if needed) to rid plants of whiteflies, mites, aphids, scales, and other pests.

Most important of all is that you enjoy your vegetable garden. You will gain a lot of satisfaction from the fact that you grew the vegetables yourself. Not only will you have fun from your garden hobby but now you can start a culinary hobby with all your fresh produce.

Happy Gardening!

Doing your own patio furniture repairs can certainly make better sense, because you will be able to stretch your money and give the patio furniture the appropriate attention it deserve. Here are several noteworthy tips you can safely try when you do your own patio furniture repair.

Don’t you just love to loll around on a comfortable chaise? However, to stay safe and secure, you should check if your chaise is an old furniture model. Does it have a headrest, which can be adjusted into various positions? What makes these adjustments possible to perform are the headrests’ ratchets or claws.

However, the downside to this convenience is that repeated adjustments will weaken the support of the headrest, causing a collapse without any warning. You could get your fingers crushed between the headrest and the back of the chaise. How do you go about repairing this piece of furniture?

Patio Furniture Repair Tip #1

First, check if the headrest wobbles, it should not. Then check the screws that keep the ratchet together. Are these chipped, rusting, or worse broken? Buy replacement parts.

Patio Furniture Repair Tip #2

If the frame wallowed out holes, you can weld these holes and then drill these tight.

Patio Furniture Repair Tip #3

Even if the ratchet is not worn out, it may have become inflexible, have a coarse or rough feel to it. In which case the right repair tip is to remove the rivets and purchase new ones or, better yet, put in durable steel screws.

Patio Furniture Repair Tip #4

Do your vinyl straps look worn and damaged? If the answer is yes, this is because of the normal wear and tear use, as well as commercial chemicals, the juice and saps of your plants and shrubs, and strong cleaning chemicals. How do you go about to repair this particular problem?

Here is how you can restore the clean look of your vinyl straps. For vinyl straps with not too stubborn stains, you can mix a 20% household-cleaning agent, with 80% water, and make sure to mix these two ingredients well. When the mixture is bubbly and sudsy, you can dip a scrub into the mixture, after which you can apply the mixture to the vinyl straps.

Finally, be sure to conduct regular inspections of your patio furniture so you can perform patio furniture repair while the need is still minimal.

You’ve decided to plant a garden but you need basic gardening tips for beginners, this is the place to be. Gardening has become a delightful hobby for people all over the world.

There are many rewards for the gardener, the visuals of his creation, the scent of the blooms, great fresh air and lots of exercise. Imagine a weekend spent in the yard with your feet up drinking in the spectacular gardens that you have created the fruits of your labor and love. If you are a beginner gardener, here are some basic gardening tips. No matter how much room you have, you can create a masterpiece garden.

The basic garden tips for beginners will help you create new gardens and make it a successful and joyful experience. In the beginning go slowly, start small but use your imagination. Choose a project that will not take a long time to complete. If it takes you weeks to finish a project you will get frustrated and start to hate the project you wanted to enjoy. Even if you have 75 or 100 square feet you will be amazed at how much you can plant.

If you are determined to have a larger project, then work in sections and turn your attention to one area at a time. This way as each section is finished you can enjoy that completed job. This will also build up your confidence as you go along making the next section not so daunting.

But for a beginner gardener a small scale garden is optimal. You are going to have to learn the basics of gardening, all about disease, the best way to control weeds and pests, the all important watering and when and how to fertilize. After your initial project you can enlarge the garden or plant one somewhere else in your yard with your new found confidence.

To cut down on the weeding of your garden, place mulch around the plants. This serves three purposes; it cuts down on weeding, as well as aiding in temperature control and water retention. Granted there are some gardeners that love to work the soil and weed the plants but it would be more rewarding to tending to the plants or just watching them grow. To maintain really healthy plants water for longer periods of time but less frequently. Do not let the plants dry out. Always water early in the morning so the plant leaves have time to dry out during the day which helps prevent fungal disease.

After planting, try to have your garden remain pesticide free. An especially good natural deterrent is as follows:

In a jar, combine 1 teaspoon dishwashing liquid and 1 cup vegetable oil. Shake vigorously. In an empty spray bottle, combine 2 teaspoons of this mixture and 1 cup water. Use at ten-day intervals (or more often if needed) to rid plants of whiteflies, mites, aphids, scales, and other pests.

These are the basic gardening tips for beginners. Remember, that you can create lovely gardens in containers which you can move around as you please. There are hundreds of different plant combinations and containers that you can use for a container garden. So, if you are an apartment or condo dweller, you can plant lovely gardens on your balcony or patio. The basic tip here is that container gardens will dry out much faster than the plants in the ground so be vigilant about checking them for moisture.

If you are going to redecorate a bedroom, you will need to come up with a style that you like first. This will allow you to make sure that everything goes together, and also that it doesn’t look like everyone else’s bedroom.

Many people like going for a tropical design, allowing them to imagine desert islands with palm trees and the warm sun. To achieve this, you will want to base your room around pale blues and greens, and add highlights with cream and white. Accessorise with tropical items, such as a rattan chair, and maybe a woven rug to feel like you’re on holiday again!

If you would like a romantic design, then go for very rich and full reds and purples, as well as blue and gold. If you want this to lean towards the Italian style a little bit, then also think about texture, by using things like mosaics and stucco to bring depth to the room. All the linen should be silky, to complete the romantic feel.

If you would like it to be Asian themed, then the main colours you will want to use are white and black, as Asian themed rooms thrive on simplicity. For the furniture you will want to use hardwood, which had a tight grain, or black leather, and to bring colour to the room you will want to use dark coloured, or sometimes gold, cushions and pillows, and then finish off the room with an Asian themed fountain and candles.

Although these other styles appeal to some people, others may just like to go for the stylish wooden look, full of pine and natural products. If you go for this, then you will probably find it is tied off with a cool patchwork quilt.

Don’t go into a certain design because someone said that you should. This is your bedroom, and you need to feel cosy in it, so do with it what you will.

There are no second opinions about the fact that vegetable gardening is a much more satisfying experience than any other form of gardening. This is more so because one gets the opportunity to relish the dishes made out of ones own produce. However, vegetable gardening is also not as easy as other types of gardening and one needs to plan well in advance, even before starting tilling the ground for the seeding purpose.
1. One important factor that needs consideration while planning is the climatic conditions. There are some vegetables that can be cultivated only in a certain type of climate and season. For example, Brussels sprouts, cabbage and broccoli can only be grown in cold areas, whereas, peppers, eggplants and tomatoes grow better in hot and sunny weather.
2. Another gardening tip that can be effectively used is that there are certain kinds of vegetables that do very well if exposed partially to sunlight. For example, lettuce is a plant that grows fantastically when exposed to sunlight for half a day and then kept in shade for the remaining half. One should plan the placement of ones vegetables in the garden keeping such factors in mind. Other vegetables that grow very well under partial exposure to sunlight are carrots, spinach, cauliflower, cucumbers, Swiss chard, radishes and beets.
3. Is your garden located in a region that either has a very long growth season or a very short one. Based on its weather conditions, a garden can be cultivated with the help of the following gardening tip. Gardens with long growth season are apt for growing vegetables like tomatoes, beans (lima, soy and dry), artichokes, celery, peppers, potatoes, asparagus, rhubarb, eggplant, onions, kale and leeks. Whereas, the gardens located in short growth areas must have vegetables like beets, cabbage, carrots, turnips, beans, peas, radishes, peas, mustard greens, onions and lettuce.
4. The next significant gardening tip is based on your level of expertise as a gardener. If you are a beginner, you will do much better by growing vegetables like beans (dry and green), potatoes, squash (summer and winter), radishes, tomatoes, beets, salad greens, beets, sunflowers, lettuce, Swiss chard and any other root crop, that don’t offer great challenges and put you off in no time. In case you are a seasoned gardener and wish to take on the challenges, you can try your hand at celery, watermelon, parsnips, leeks, cantaloupe, Chinese cabbage, cauliflower, leeks, peas and corns.
5. At the time of planning for your vegetable garden, you must also include the space constraints that certain vegetable plants may impose. Some vegetables can do with minimum space while others may require yards and yards to come good. This gardening tip will help you classify the vegetables by the space that they require to grow. Vegetables that consume maximum space are artichokes (globe), cauliflower, cucumbers, peas, potatoes, winter squash, broccoli, corn, melons and sweet potatoes. Least space consuming vegetable plants are beets, Chinese cabbage, tomatoes, eggplant, lettuce, radishes, mustard greens, parsnips, beans (bush and pole), carrots, turnips, Swiss chard, leeks, sunflowers, peppers and onions. You must take care while planting these vegetables that you leave enough space for you to move around in the garden.
It is strictly advisable to not to use any chemicals in your vegetable gardens to get rid of weeds and insects. There are several organic methods that can be used without employing chemical herbicides and pesticides. Use of such chemicals kills both the good and harmful bugs in the vegetable garden. Moreover, the chemically exposed vegetables can have severe impact on the consumer health in the long run. You can always make use of a good naturally prepared mulch to get rod of weeds in your garden.

It is rather rare that people go for a copper bathroom sink. It is generally employed by those who intend to send out a very strong style and fashion statement to all their friends that they have the most artistic tastes. It is always a better idea to use a vessel sink as a bathroom sink if this s your intention for copper vessel sinks are not distinctly as uncommon. However copper bathroom sinks are indeed very beautiful and aesthetically appealing in any bathroom. For one they are very unique because they are hand-made and artistically built by the artisan himself. Here are a few buying tips…

Copper sinks are very durable are very long-lasting. In one respect they do not require much maintenance because they are very strong-built sinks. However in another respect they must be taken care of because copper metal is environment sensitive and may develop certain anomalies on the surface due to the elements present in the air. Also they need a lot of cleaning and immediate drying. It should also be ensured that the copper metal used in the sink is of s very good quality. This is due to the fact that a poor grade copper will be prone to corrosion and such damages which will degrade the quality and the surface of the sink and may lead to dirty ugly stains on the surface. Another important feature of a good copper bathroom sink is that it should be have thick copper seams attached to the rim otherwise the sink is not expected to hold for long and will give way. Check if the sink has seams at all and if present check if they are copper seams so that the sink may be sustained for a decent length of time.

The uniformity of the copper metal thickness in a bathroom sink is of stringent importance because at times the sinks are thin at places and thick at other places. This makes the sink unstable and reduces its life tremendously. The sink should also be sufficiently thick in order to sustain against hard usage and poor handling. The sink should be without any kind of protective layering so that the germ-repelling properties of the copper metal are not destroyed and kept intact. This makes the sink naturally repellant to germs and bacteria and hence saves you a lot of cleanliness issues that you may otherwise have to tackle. To maintain the gorgeous look f a copper bathroom sink, it requires a lot of effort on the part of the users. So only if you are prepared to keep those things in mind while using and keep a strict control over your rough and wild instincts, should you use this kind of a sink.

Keeping these things in mind only, should you buy copper bathroom sink.
