Do you feel a tad too bored every time you walk into your house? Does it seem like ages since you enjoyed your living space? If you answered yes to all of these queries then it’s high time you got around to refurbishing your home. How will you do this? Well, there are actually a number of ways. Various themes are available for you to pick from depending on your personal taste and preference. Yes, you don’t have to stick to a Retro-inspired room if you always become dizzy from all the geometric patterns the minute you step into it all!For a homey appeal, a Country interior design scheme oozes comfort and serenity with its rustic glamour. It’s a wonderful choice for people who like living in a space that’s free of all the ruffles and frills. Far from the typical primitive country cabin, this style has evolved to produce a look that’s still undoubtedly country but is sophisticatedly urban at the same time. There are different variations of this theme. You can choose from styles that are ruggedly Tuscan, French-inspired, Victorian, or the regular American Country cottage. All of these styles lend an ambience that’s relaxing in its stark rural simplicity. If you gravitate towards a space that exudes elegance and style then the sophistication of a Modern-themed home will suit you the most. This look can be achieved by using tones that blend with the background. Basic colors such as white, black and beige are particularly needed to achieve this effect. So if you are thinking of red, orange or green, then drop that brush! Geometrical patterns star in this theme as opposed to symmetrical ones. If you are a sucker for fancy things, then this minimalist style will be something you have to gradually adapt to.Western-style homes still connect to home-makers with their Native American influences, but other themes that are slightly more shabby and cowboy-friendly are gaining popularity too. With this type of décor, opt for warm hues of taupe, temperate shades of red and a splash of green on the walls. To polish this look, leather, stone and wooden furnishings are must-buy options. Antlers and other nature-inspired pieces accentuate this theme as well. It’s like living in the wild without the fear of having bears lurking nearby…If you’re a beach bum who spends more time under the sun rather than indoors, then a nautical theme might probably change your mind! Now you don’t necessarily have to own a lighthouse to pull this off. All it takes is a major color change that celebrates bright white and azure blues that remind you of lazy days by the sea. Decorate using pieces from your sailing trips, exquisite shells, and even ship-inspired items! If the white-blue combo isn’t for you, then be inspired by sandy hues matched with sea green tones that bring back memories of summer!Do you want to feel like you’re walking through a refreshing rainforest? Now you can. The tropical theme assures you of a space that comes alive with bursts of green, auburn and beige. Add to this several palm tree designs and animal prints and you’ll be surprised at the relaxing effect it radiates. Rattan furniture, along with sturdy wooden pieces, blends with this theme pretty well. Furnishings made of iron can also add to this tropical theme. Throw pillows and plush cushions in various shades of taupe, sage and white will complete your room’s overall tropical vibe. Now all you need are some piña colladas!Asian-style homes are well-known for their elegant spaces and minimal use of décor. If you’re looking for a quiet retreat after a long day’s work, then this theme is a winner! Its completely calming effect is probably due to its clutter-free approach to style. Emphasis is placed on creating a place for relaxation and meditation. Popular hues revolve around rich blacks, warm reds, refreshing greens and sleek browns. Scented candles in simple holders, screens, mirrors, oriental pillows and an Orchid placed in a nice vase- these are all suitable accessories for this Asian-inspired nook.Choose a theme that’s tailored for you. Then add signature pieces that give justice to your unique personality. Remember, you can never be too “at home” in your own space – indulge!

After the hassles of a nine-to-five job, it’s nice to come home to a place that lets you get rid of all those negative and undue tensions. The home is a space that is sole witness to your family’s bonding moments and celebrations of special occasions. It is where you rest, dine, and find your loved ones at the end of the day.

It’s no surprise why almost everybody is interested in interior design. After all, making memories will be much more enjoyable when you have a nice background for all these unrepeatable moments. Due to the overwhelmingly numerous design ideas to choose from, most people however, get quite wary of the job. They often think they should hire a professional to do the entire task for them. If you happen to be one of these people, then here are some decorating tips that will leave you wondering why it took you so long to start your home makeover!Firstly, every endeavor reaps benefits from doing some research at the very start. So grab all the lifestyle and home-making magazines you can find and start browsing through them. Look at all the pictures of houses and rooms that you think are really impressive. Once you select these photos, try to discover the underlying patterns. It could be that out of all the pictures you’ve seen, you happen to have a penchant for nautical-inspired themes. Or among all the rooms that you like, the common ground is that it should be something quaintly Victorian. Having established this, you are now one step closer to singling out your dream theme! Now, it is really, really important that you employ one single theme for a room. Don’t get all experimental and match Country with Tropical influences, if you want to avoid having confused house guests. For the kitchen area, a great choice would be something Tuscan. The French country design is also quite in demand. However, matching these two themes may give your kitchen that haphazard look. Don’t even think about it. If you get bored with a particular theme, you can always put away items from a specific theme and swap them for other pieces. For instance, changing the living room from a Cowboy theme to an Asian means you have to tuck away all those antlers and leather furnishings for a start. Another tip would be to reduce the décor hoarding. If you love impulse buying, make sure you don’t make it too obvious by cramming all those home décor items in the living room for everybody to see! Remember that themes should be constant in a specific space and add-on’s that don’t quite belong should be left on the shelf. If you really think a particular ornament is too unique to pass up, exchange this for one item in your living room instead of simply putting it there. That way, you won’t have too much going on in one corner of the room. One last thing, be sure you’re happy with the choices you make. Ok, so those magazine lay-outs are to die for, but is it what you really want to come home to? And although most would argue that a safe paint job is the best bet, indulge in a room in rich vibrant red! There’s nothing wrong with giving in to your ultimate fantasies once in a while. Besides, if you have to sell it or transfer to another house someday, the problem is a piece of cake when you have a can of paint!

Each of us wanted to change something in the nature of your home – wallpaper, furniture, carpets, etc. Anything can change, it is good to comply with some small things that will save you big headaches. When you buy furniture is good to evaluate the overall color of the situation, the type of furniture and how many people will inhabit the room. Type of floor / laminate, carpet and the total size of the room are also a determining factor. Select a heavy thick curtains for the windows of the bedroom and living room, and lighter of the doors. So your home will be comfortable and esthetic. Thick curtains create an atmosphere of relaxation and tranquility.

Since it is a choice of furniture, large leather sofa or couch are particularly suitable for modern homes. If you are a fan of comfort and warmth of wood, you can choose vibratory chairs. If you often need to move from one location to another chose the cane, which combine the convenience and low cost. Of course a similar effect can be achieved with PVC chairs and tables. The amount and type of decor must meet the area of your home. Bright walls and wallpaper suitable for smaller rooms, creating a sense of space. Room accessories – paintings, photographs – must also meet the size of the room. If you have a large home, may set a dark interior and large pictures. Additional effects can be achieved when combined with sofa shade with light sources. If you choose them at different times choose lamp with a neutral light, to match every color and type of powder.

Another important part of the decoration of the house is carpet. It does not only enhance the effect of interior design, but brings additional style and comfort at home. In addition you can choose decorative glass windows, or even hanging ceiling if you have enough space.

source: http://www.modazadoma.com

While you may just think to use fairy lights at Christmas to decorate the tree they are increasingly being used in interior design, especially in bedrooms. The importance of lighting has long been known in the interior design world and fairy lights are rapidly being used as the decorative light form of choice for designers. Light can bring ambiance and set a mood with the flick of a switch, understandably, more decorative forms of lighting are becoming popular.
For a young girl’s room it is easy to see the appeal of fairy lights, as finishing touches they are unsurpassed at creating a space that is not only relaxing but aesthetically pleasing as well. Many young girls love to have a storybook wonderland to escape to, along with decorative furniture and tasteful wall adornments fairy lights can really make the look. In addition to the decoration however is the vital importance of a comfortable bed. Making sure that it has opulent sheets, naturally in pink shades and plenty of pillows ensure that bed time for your little girl is never a problem.
It is not just young girl’s rooms that can benefit from the installation of fairy lights. Increasingly even in adult rooms they are becoming a popular lighting option. It is easy to underestimate the mood created by lighting, but a set of fairy lights behind a thin sheet can create a decorative feature that is a talking point as well as a source of light. By utilising this method you can create unbelievable levels of ambience that is hard to achieve in a room with normal lighting, the subtle shades and shadows created by fairy lights are a strong design feature.
Lighting generally falls into three varieties in terms of interior design; these are natural light, accent lighting and task lighting. The skill of great lighting design is to make the best use of all three to create a room that can be lit for any purpose. Making the most of natural light is one of the most important weapons in the interior designer’s arsenal. Particularly useful in this task is to maximise the light by hanging mirrors and to remove excessively heavy curtains from window frames. In addition, most designers will advise homeowners to trim any bushes or trees outside a window to let in as much light as possible.
Accent lighting is where fairy lights come in, it is primarily used in design to highlight certain features in a room and to define the general lighting already present. Important is to realise which parts of the room you want highlighting and to experiment with various lighting patterns before you have found the perfect solution. Fairy lights however can be used as lighting features in their own right. By using smaller variants and wrapping them around plants, vases or even the underside of a mantelpiece you can create a feature that at night, literally shines.
Fairy lights are not particularly suited to task lighting due to their generally subtle brightness. Instead it is more advisable to use table lamps, spot lights in a kitchen or desk lamps. Having light to perform tasks is extremely important so you do not have to put your eyes under excessive strain. These lights while adding to ambience should not be a feature and purely used to light an area when performing a task.
By understanding the importance of light in creating mood and ambience you can make any room in your house stylish and comfortable. As an inexpensive form of lighting fairy lights can help create this, remember to buy specialist lights however, the Christmas lanterns you hang on the tree every year are hardly suited to the purpose.

One of the most important factors that affect the home environment is indoor lighting, because it can affect our daily life in different degree. Different forms of illumination can affect an object’s image, its tone as well as the impression that they leave behind. Lighting can create or destroy the atmosphere of indoor environment.

In many cases, people only start to think about lighting after the interior design has been completed and construction has started. This is a very big mistake. Lighting is also one of the factors to consider during the design phase. In particular, the owner needs to posses the basic knowledge of lighting, so as to be able to provide some personal opinions regarding lighting decoration during the design phase. Regrettably, many architects, designer and reconstruction personnel are lacking in this aspect of training. Over the past ten years, new technologies have been appearing, and large variety of interior lighting products had been introduced to the market. Thus, lighting has been an essential component of interior design.

A splendid lighting decoration must take into consideration of all occupant needs and their lifestyle, in order to satisfy three essential factors: people, construction and point of focus (example: artwork, paintings). But the most important of all, is to provide effective lighting to the person using the space.

- Background illumination.

Background lighting design should archive a soft, gentle and mesmerizing effect to the space. In order to obtain the ideal background light, the modern illumination design uses the reflection from the wall surface and the ceiling light, so as to avoid producing luminescent spot, thus achieving the satisfying light effect. The background illumination light may come from the wall lamp, the hanging lamp or light source from pillars.

- Decorative illumination.

Decorative lighting provides glittering effect to the surface, giving the illusion of it providing the background light. This kind of illumination should be lightly used, so as not to cause the entire space to appear too dazzling.

- Focus illumination.

Prominent light source is carefully arranged to focus on some objects like artwork, paintings or certain construction structures detail. The main goal is to achieve the artistic effect. Focus illumination make use of not too bright light sources like candle or wall hanging lamp. Track lighting and portable type lighting can also be used.

For all your indoor and outdoor lighting needs, featuring modern and contemporary lighting.

We all want a beautiful home, the sad part is that many of the things that we would really like to have cost a great deal of money. In todays world, money is scarce. With gas prices, the price of food, and the price of general living, we have to save money in any place that we can. So, while many of us want our homes to look great, we want to do so on the little bit of money we have.
The good news is that there are many home designs and interior design projects that you can do easily and stick to your budget at the same time. There are little things that you can do, which will make dramatic improvements to your home in no time flat. For example, any home design or interior decorator will tell you that a good way to give those walls a new look or a face lift is with wallpaper. Wallpaper is fairly cheap and comes in such a wide variety of designs that you will have no problems finding something to suit your tastes.
Mirrors can make great accents for your home. They can be strategically placed to reflect artificial or natural light within your home, creating a soothing and welcoming atmosphere. As you can see with just these first two tips, it does not have to cost a lot to create a home design that you love.
While the exterior of the home should look good, the interior is where you spend most of your time, so designing something that you feel comfortable and love is important to you. The great part about home design is that you can tackle any room within your home. If your kitchen needs an update, why not consider just repainting some of your cabinets. This can give you a new look, fix some damage even, and save you a ton of money, as an alternative to replacing your kitchen cabinets.
Something simple, but extremely beneficial to the home is to add new plants to your home design. Bringing home a few flowers or plants, no matter if they are real or not, can really add something special to your rooms. Flowers bright up any room and plants just give it a homey feel.
If you feel your walls are just too boring and you really do not want to wallpaper the whole room, why not look into some other elements. The great thing about home design is that you can make it anything you want it to be. Some interior paint, along with some stencils or sponges can help you create your very own work of art. You might even consider borders or decals to help you out as well.
As you can see, there are many ways that you can update your home design and interior without having to spend a great deal of money. All you have to do is use your imagination and get to work, whether its wallpaper, painting, or moving things around a little, you can really had some style to your rooms.

Interior design for children is one of the most fun, delightful aspects of the business if you ask me. It is so fun because children are limitless as far as their creativity and imaginations are concerned. Whenever planning interior design for children, be sure to involve the children in the planning and-if you feel very brave, the implementation of your designs.
A good beginning point or theme for interior design for children is to start with any favorite activity or toy or even character of the child’s interest. Remember that many items of interest to children are topics that will change with time so try to take advantage of these interests and favorites with accessories and changes that will be easy to replace in the future as their interests and needs change. If a child has an interest or a particular activity that they are very enthused about and they have a special request that would make the design very special to them, go for it as long as the parents are as enthusiastic as the child is. Also, forewarn them of any possible headaches they might experience changing it in the future when it comes time to redesign the space in order to accommodate the child’s changing needs.
When choosing your color plan or schemes remember that interior design for children offers you unique opportunities to use bold or bright colors that would usually not be ideal for use in adult surroundings. Along the same lines, certain areas of the room would be more ergonomic to use as focal points then would in an adult’s atmosphere. For example, a chalkboard or toy box might capture a child’s attention more so then would a table or seating arrangement.
Another aspect of design that will vary from adult tastes when planning interior design for children would be the accessories that will be used to highlight and accentuate key features. Toys and collectibles make wonderful objects to use in this application. However, many times toys that are placed on display or for decoration are toys that the child would enjoy much more by being able to play with it rather then it actually being on display. You can solve this dilemma by either using old, unused toys that no longer captivate the child’s interests or even by purchasing duplicates and allowing them to actually use one version of the toy and letting them know that the others are for looking only. Also, keep in mind that collectibles often times are of less significance to smaller children then are to adults so make sure that any item placed in a child’s room is not of significant fiscal or sentimental value just in case!
Tying in interior design for children can be accomplished easily by purchasing one of millions of available bed treatments that is complimentary to the designs and themes used in the creation of the room layout as well as fitting in well with the accessories chosen. Many bed treatment packages come prepackaged with matching detailed sheets, a comforter, dust ruffle, and window coverings. These items can bring a room together in the greatest of all fashions and are an option in interior design for children that are obtainable by anyone looking to make a change.
Always remember when planning interior design for children that a child changes attitudes, opinions, and behaviors around every three years. Permanent changes of any type are a big no-no and practical, cost effective ones are ideal. A good furniture tip to remember when designing for kids is to buy reasonably priced, sound furniture that doesn’t break the bank. Kids are even harder on furniture then they are on clothes! And most importantly to take into consideration when working with interior design for children–of course, HAVE FUN!!!

When people decide to decorate or re-decorate their homes, they turn to interior designers, or get books out of libraries. But the interior design magazines contain a wonderful pool of knowledge about the best ways to design your home’s interior.
If you’re thinking of changing the look of your home’s interior design – or even if you’re just dissatisfied with a single room in the house, you’re probably casting about it in all directions for new ideas.
And ideas are all around you – from the gloss and unreality as displayed in today’s television shows, to examples you see when you visit the homes of your friends or acquaintances.
There are books on interior design published every day… but books are limited to a set number of pages and can’t possibly cover every aspect of design…. which is where the niche magazines covering home decorating come in. There are dozens of them, most of them focusing on a certain kind of design, while others do focus on the general aspects.
So regardless of what kind of design you’re looking for, an interior design magazine will probably have covered that in a past, present, or future issue.
You will find interior design magazines practically everywhere you look – from the magazine racks in book stores to home improvement stores such as Home Depot, Menard’s or Lowe’s. Wal-Mart and Target carry vast selections. Indeed, home decorating magazines are so popular that even your local gas station will probably have at least one on its magazine rack.
Books on interior design and decorating can become dated – but magazines will always have the cutting edge information the homeowner will want to know to create the best designs possible.
These magazines – House Beautiful, O At Home, Home Companion, Veranda and Country Living to name a few – will also have the latest information on the newest gadgets, tips for cleaning and organizing the home, as well as ideas for entertaining.
How many styles are there for the interior designer to choose from? There are so many that it’s not possible for one book to cover them all, which is why interior design magazines are the way to go.
Design styles vary from bringing back the classics of yesteryear: the Federal style or the Edwardian style, the Adirondack style, the Art Deco style (my own personal favorite), Baroque, Bungalow, Japanese… to the modern age of PLUG (planned ugliness) to Miami modern! There are too many to list them all, which is why searching the web and reading a variety of magazines is the way to go.
Of course once you’ve gotten your idea out of a magazine you still have to bring it to fruition. At this point of course you’ll have to start as you would with any other home design- assess who will be living in the home – if you have a lot of kids running around you probably will not want to have a lot of bric-a-brac around that could easily be broken. Although, the magazines will probably give you tips on how to ensure that that doesn’t happen, regardless of how many kids you have.
Interior decorating and interior design magazines are a great tool for the home owner, so make sure you consult them whenever you’re planning a change or an improvement.
