My father has a cat that loves to scratch one particular section of his sofa. This came to my mind recently as I was thinking of a gift for Father’s Day. I did a little research on-line and found the Fresh Kitty Furniture Protectors. My research indicated that they could be found at Target or Petco.
Target didn’t have them, but I was able to find them at Petco. They were selling them in three-packs, each costing about $8.00. I bought two packages so my father would have an even number of protective strips to place along the corners of his sofa. This set me back about $17.50. Each package contained three 4″ x 12″ x 1/32″ plastic sheets, each with two adhesive strips running lengthwise along the edge of the 12″ height. The box they came in said the adhesive was good for fabric sofas, among other things, and that the plastic was impenetrable to kitty’s sharp claws.
Just looking at them in the box and thinking of how much they cost, I immediately felt that this product was a complete rip-off. But, they were meant as a present, so I figured as long as they worked it was worth the money. However, THEY DON’T WORK!!! My father peeled the protective tape off the back of one plastic sheet to expose the adhesive and attempted to stick it to a corner of the sofa that his cat likes to scratch. The plastic sheet stuck to the sofa for about 2 seconds before falling off. The adhesive was sticky to the touch, but we couldn’t get it to stick to anything but our fingers.
Another quality issue I would like to point out is that these plastic sheets are only about 1/32″ thick, which makes them very thin. The package says they’re stong enough to withstand a cat’s claws, but I sincerely doubt it. With the right entry angle, a cat’s claws would pierce and shred right through one of these sheets, that is, if they even managed to stay stuck to the furniture while kitty was being naughty.
In summary, these furniture protectors are overpriced, poorly made and completely ineffective. Fortunately, I was able to return them and get my money back. You, however, should heed my warning and not waste your time or money.
